the week before the election, both mccain and obama came to sarasota for last minute rallies. with my position being assigned to the intelligence unit (don't let the name deceive you) i was afforded the opportunity to work both rallies alongside the secret service. it was quite an experience and a much needed change of pace from gangland.
mccain came in first. i basically helped with inner and outer security, watching people, etc... when he was leaving, i took some photos of him with some of my co-workers but did not have the opportunity to get my picture with him (darn!). i must say, he is smaller in stature in person than on tv. that by no means lessens the hero that he is! and mrs. mccain is very striking. the rally went well.
obama came in a few days after mccain. this time, i was at the airport when he landed and was in the motorcade the whole time. i think we were about 2 cars behind his 'limo'. i stayed with one of the secret service agents the whole time and again monitored the crowd. after the rally, obama had lunch, did some interviews, etc... before heading to a pumpkin patch and back to the airport, he took some time for some pictures. again, i was the one taking the pictures but this time had the opportunity to be in one with him. if you don't recognize the guy in the second picture, that is presidents right hand man, reggie. he is everywhere with obama. he was fun to talk to so i asked to have my picture with him as well.
it was a great experience to work with the secret service. they are very accommodating people considering they are all go go go. i learned some interesting things about how they operate. it was fun being in a presidential-nominee motorcade also. they don't mess around! i value this experience.
although i did not vote for obama, i still pray for him being our leader. my hope is that he will turn to the right confidants to seek the right choices. i pray that our God will guide him through these next four years. so, here are my claim to fame photos.
